OVERVIEW

Florida Quality Improvement in Cardiology, (FL-QUIC) is an initiative of the chapter to recognize efforts of cardiovascular teams around the state who are working hard to improve the quality of care they deliver. We accept nominations for projects that include care coordination, to process improvements, to reducing unnecessary tests. A panel of independent judges selects the best projects.

PROJECT SUBMISSION PROCESS

The process is simple to enter projects. Complete this form which asks some basic questions: what problem did you address, what solution did you create, and what did you measure? Submissions must be received by May 3, 2024 to be considered for the 2024 Annual Meeting.

BACKGROUND

The Florida Chapter Quality committee wants to better understand the current state of quality cardiovascular care in Florida. To accomplish that, we have created the Florida Quality Improvement in Cardiology (FL-QUIC) initiative.

Through FL-QUIC, we want to know about what you are doing to improve quality cardiovascular care in your practices. What kinds of programs do we want to hear about? We would love to hear about how you may have worked to reduce door-to-balloon time or helped EMS improve early transmission of ECGs from the field. Perhaps you streamlined processes to improve safety in your catheterization lab or developed a successful way to reduce heart failure readmissions. Have you successfully participated in accreditation of your nuclear laboratory or as a chest pain center; how did it go and what did you learn? In short, anything you have done to improve quality or safety, we want to know!

Our goal with the program is to collect stories in order to highlight what our members are doing to improve quality cardiovascular care in Florida. We plan to share your stories with other members and hope that you can connect with other people who are looking to learn how to improve their own practice. We would like to be able to tell state leaders in Tallahassee and College leaders around the country about your hard work. The most successful projects will be recognized and highlighted at our Annual Meeting.

The FL QUIC program is supported by a generous grant from the Florida Heart Research Institute

The Florida Heart Research Institute has been an international leader in cardiovascular research and education since 1944. Established originally as one of the world’s first cardiovascular research hospitals called the Florida Heart Institute, the hospital was sold in 1993 and the research and education divisions remained intact. Today, Florida Heart Research Institute is an independent, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization with the mission to stop heart disease through research, education and prevention.

Florida Heart Research Institute’s novel approach to collaborative research on the national level serves as a critical impetus to the introduction and development of innovative research efforts. This unique approach has proven highly effective in directing critical resources to open new and vital areas of scientific exploration.

Florida Heart Research Institute’s outreach expanded statewide through the 2003 legislative enactment of the Stop Heart Disease license plate. The nation’s first specialty plate for this cause raises funds for heart disease research, education and prevention programs for Florida residents.
