It is the priority of the Florida Chapter to promote diversity in the cardiovascular workforce, promote equity of care for its patients, and foster inclusion in its membership. This endeavor is aligned with the national ACC mission statement, which is to transform cardiovascular care and improve heart health for all. This past year, the Florida Chapter created a Diversity and Inclusion initiative led by Edward Chu, MD. Our current project is to develop a mentorship and shadowing program for aspiring youth who wish to explore a career in cardiovascular medicine. We hope to match local high school and college students, as well as internal medicine residents, with Florida cardiologists in their nearby community to showcase what it means to be a cardiologist. The shadowing experience can range from patient care to clinical research to medical education, and everything in between. Our ultimate vision is to develop a robust pipeline of cardiovascular healthcare providers from all backgrounds to serve the increasingly diverse Florida patient population. If you are interested in being a mentor, please sign up via this link.
